Many wine lovers claim that Burgundy wines — from the Burgundy wine region of France — are the greatest red wines in the world. However, Burgundy also offers extremely good white wines.

Some of the most famous wines include:

  • Chablis
  • Côtes de Nuit
  • Côte de Beaune
  • Beaujolais

Beaune

Beaune is a beautiful city in Burgundy, with about 22.000 (permanent) residents, which is known for extremely good wines and the annual wine sales that take place in the city.

One of the most important tourist attractions of Beaune is "Les Hospices Civils de Beaune" or "Hotel-Dieu de Beaune", a former charitable almshouse in BeauneFrance. It was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of Burgundy, as a hospital for the poor and needy. The original hospital building, the Hôtel-Dieu, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth-century architecture, is now a museum.
